About This Blog

Hello!

My name is Nicole. I created A Caffeinated Genetic Counselor back in November of 2017 because I realized how little information was available on the application process for genetic counseling programs. Around the same time, I came across the 2011 Diversity issue of the Journal of Genetic Counseling and read an interesting article about the racial and ethnic demographics of genetic counseling and suggestions of what could be done to improve diverse recruitment of providers. I came to the conclusion that, as a queer Asian-American woman, I wanted to share my application
journey with the hopes my story might inspire and inspire others.

In April of 2019, I was accepted into a Masters of Genetic Counseling program at the Keck Graduate Institute for graduation in Spring of 2021. As I continue my academic journey and enter the field as a genetic counselor, I hope to continue to share my story, and the stories of others with my readers. I will continue to contribute to initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in the field and to promote awareness about genetic counseling, both as a career option and an aspect healthcare. My goal is to share my honest truth, and if it resonates with just one person, it will all be worth it. I am excited to share my stories with you!
